Another clause in this bill makes it okay for a doctor to lie and withhold information about the fetus' health, birth defects, etc...the point being to make the woman go forward with the birth regardless of the consequences. The clause protects doctors from being sued for withholding vital information to the woman.
And there are no provisions of protection for women who have been raped or victimized by incest.
Keep it up out west and the only way I'm gonna get to California from here is through the Panama Canal.

Must be some explanation....it certainly can't be that the brown guy is so much better than all the bland, colorless wannabes on the golf course
Problem is Tiger's doctor, or one of them, anyway, has big ties to BALCO, which is the company that took down Marion Jones..lotta smoke...and where there's smoke...there is probably some fire. You can read it here.

Ohio Set to Follow Arizona's Lead
If Butler County Sheriff Rick Jones and a Hamilton, Ohio GOP representative, get their way, state law in Ohio will soon mimic the travesty of justice going on in Arizona. Jones is behind a bill that was introduced into the Ohio House last year, mandating that all employers check social security numbers of all potential employees against the federal registry before hiring them to work.
In fact, Jones has conducted a personal crusade against suspected illegals for the past several years, until the feds politely told him to knock it off and let them do their job. Hence the creation of the bill now pending in the state legislature. You can read more about it here. Jones is quoted as saying he supports the Arizona law and wants to toughen the measure now stalled in Columbus.
In Arizona, Governor Jan, is hiding behind a small clause in her new anti immigrant bill that states her police force will not stop people just for looking funny or different from “regular” Arizonans. According to Governor Brewer her police will only ask for documentation during routine police stops for other reasons. However, like everything else in America, the devil is in the details or small print. There is another clause that literally criminalizes breathing in Arizona if you don't have a license or citizenship papers. It says;
“a person is guilty of trespassing, by merely being “present on any public or private land in this (Arizona) states, while lacking authorization to be in the United States.”
Other states have tried to legalize their xenophobic tendencies in the past. Texas, back in the 1980s tried to bar immigrant children from public schools. The Carter Administration challenged the law and eventually won out by a 5-4 vote of the United States Supreme Court. The same thing is likely to happen to this law in Arizona.
This time around, however, there may be a slight problem if this controversy makes it to SUPCO. Buried in the writings of Chief Justice John Roberts is a letter, offering his opinion on the court case striking down the Texas law. This letter written before Roberts was appointed to the high court, finds fault with the decision killing the Texas law. Let's hope the politicos come to their senses before it lands in Robert's lap. Wonder if a Chief Justice has ever recused himself from a case? Don't know. But I doubt it.
Remember it took possible loss of the Superbowl to get Arizona to reinstate the Martin Luther King Holiday, maybe an economic boycott is the best way to handle the situation. Boycotts have worked very well...ask my city. Cincinnati has weathered two boycotts....one from Blacks over the 2004 killing of an unarmed young Black man by police and subsequent riot in the streets...and from the LGBT community for enacting discriminatory laws against gay people.
Cincinnati officials refuse to say how much money was lost, but we do know it was a lot, and the biggest hit was taken over convention bookings. Nobody wanted to hold conventions in the Queen City for a long time...until things seemingly changed toward the two respective communities.
Cincinnati police are actually wearing cameras on their hats now to document their actions, while the laws against gays and lesbians have been taken off the books...the direct result of pressure both internally and externally.
So rather than joining the planned marches in Arizona to be led by Reverend Al, maybe Ohioans need to clean up their own backyard and head to Hamilton for an eye to eye meet with Sheriff Rick.

Legalizing marijuana has made it to the ballot in California...Amid reports of the arrest of the guy making the most money selling weed to Americans (12 million dollars a month), comes another attempt to legalize the drug.....
Sounds good to me. Taxing marijuana, and treating it like alcohol would generate an estimated 1.4 billion dollars a year in tax revenue for California alone. Imagine what it could do for American government coffers.
No need to study the matter. Just look at the arrested dude's monthly cash flow. Making it legal stops all the killing that is threatening to overwhelm our southern borders.
At the very least, decriminalize possession. This stops the 3 to 1 profiling arrests of Blacks...Blacks get locked up 3 times more than whites according to statistics, despite using less of the stuff then whites.

Sarah Palin has apparently inked a deal to star in an 8 part documentary series for the TLC channel. The show will be called Sarah Palin's Alaska, naturally.
I guess she is going to do her best Sacajawea impression. Said to be getting a million dollars per episode. Talk about cashing in...but then this is what politicians do...get elected...retire or quit and sit back and rake in the money..
It's not unusual for reality TV stars from survivor-like shows to translate from scripted reality to real television...Elizabeth of The View comes to mind and that girl from the Bachelor is turning up all over infotainment TV..
But it still remains to be seen if the former Alaskan governor cum tour guide will be allowed to take her act to the White House, should she so choose.

Crone-Not Just a Conservatory in Cincinnati
What is “hamster craziness,” you ask? It's being on a treadmill going nowhere, fast. Congresswoman Schmidt, back from DC and fresh from a massive drubbing on Health care reform, is still telling lies, the same lies, still spinning a web of major prevarication, and doing it with a straight face even though the facts say differently.
She even creates a new lie and new tax...the abortion tax. Hadn't heard that one before today.
Of course the Enquirer is only too happy to print it without fact check. Guess it's too hard to really go through motions of doing the job of objective reporting.
Enquirer, it really is okay to tell an interview that they're full of crap. It really is okay to challenge on their facts and figures. You get better answers that way.
Makes for a more honest interview.
Schmidt, like all her colleagues assume republican is synonymous with American, an assumption that was proven patently wrong in 2008. It is an assumption that ignores the big parts of America not grounded in white privilege. Republicans assume they speak for us, because they assume they were born to do so. Now that focus has cleared up a bit, they are still acting like they're in charge.
They are still acting as if health care was a minor ripple and that they will set things right come November. This is a fallacy in and of itself, because it assumes that only republicans are going to vote in November.
Amid the blatant lies contained in her column today, she even says that is what is going to happen. Led by Jean d'Arc, the GOP is going to rise again, just like the South, All hail Jefferson Davis and the Confederacy.
Okay. Rather than paraphrase I will let you decide...Is she nuts? Are you better off with GOP rubber stamp Jean in Congress singing back up to Orangeman John Boehner. Here is what she said today reposted from the Cincinnati Enquirer website.
Schmidt: Costs will go up and quality will go down
The president has now signed into law a health care reform bill that proponents wildly claim will give everyone everything they want. Sound familiar? And, in order to come up with enough votes to pass it, Democratic leaders had to buy off their own members with special deals for Nebraska, Florida, Louisiana and don't forget Senator Dodd's new hospital in Connecticut. These are but a few of the "special compromises" that were made to line up the necessary votes.
Every opinion poll and nearly every constituent I have listened to want real reform to lower their health care costs. The president, Speaker Pelosi and Sen. Reid have instead given us at least 19 new taxes and have eliminated Medicare Advantage for 5 million retired seniors. Yet, once all of the budget gimmicks and unrealistic future cuts are removed, the plan will actually add between $59 and $260 billion to the national debt over the next 10 years.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, the Democratic health care plan will actually increase the amount of health care spending by the federal government by $390 billion over the next 10 years. Millions of American families will see their premiums rise by about $2,100 annually. This is not the kind of reform we need, nor is it what my Democratic colleagues have been selling. Too many of my constituents are struggling to pay health insurance premiums at the current costs. How can they possibly afford to pay more?
If the plan's costs to families, employers and the federal government were not bad enough, it gets even worse. The portion of the plan that is funded is paid for by a half-trillion dollars in job-stifling tax increases and another half-trillion dollars in Medicare cuts. Most alarming to those who do not want their taxes used to fund abortion, the federal government will be mandating a fee on new subsidized insurance plans to pay for abortions for the first time in over 30 years - despite an over-hyped executive order that does nothing to stop the collection of the new abortion tax, and can be rescinded in the blink of an eye.
Fortunately, a majority of Americans realize that they are going to be taxed and their quality of coverage will be reduced. They understand that this measure is about creating a new government entitlement to give coverage to 32 million uninsured Americans. A laudable goal, but a dream we simply cannot afford. The Congress should instead focus on actually achieving health care reform's original goal - reducing costs for everyone.
No He Can't-Cincinnati John

Open Letter to Steve Driehaus
As the vote on health care reform approaches, I am writing today to ask you to carefully consider your vote and its future repercussions. It has been widely reported by the media that you favor health care reform as long as it does not violate your pro-life principles. In other words, you are backing the demands of Congressman Bart Stupak and the Stupak Pitts Amendment which calls for additional constraints on federal money, to prevent women from obtaining an abortion, should she so choose to have one.
The Stupak maneuver that you so vocally support, bars women from buying health care with their own personal funds, if it contains a clause allowing them to choose an abortion, should it ever become necessary. Your stance goes above and beyond the constraints already imposed upon women by the Hyde Amendment ratified in 1976.
The current health care reform bill has been written to abide by the Hyde Amendment restrictions. Regardless of the vote set to take place in a few days, the Hyde Amendment remains in place. Women cannot use federal or taxpayer funds to get an abortion. It is the law of the land and, right or wrong, has been in place, as I said since 1976.
So, I have to ask you Congressman, what is your problem? Why have you chosen to draw your line in the sand etched on the backs of women?
Refusing to vote for health care reform, continues the practice of relegating women to second class citizenship in the greatest country in the world.
Refusing to support health care reform continues the wrong headed tradition of viewing all pregnancies as a pre-existing condition, regardless of how that pregnancy came about.
Today, women who find themselves pregnant without insurance, cannot get health insurance to help them through a dangerous time in their life, that is a threat to not only their own health, but the health of the very fetus that you say you are protecting.
And, yes, pregnancy, even in these enlightened times, is a health danger, because it still kills more women than any other cause except murder. These deaths come because women cannot get prenatal or post natal health care.
Postpartum depression is barely recognized as an illness, or the treatment for it, paid for by insurance companies. How many more times do we have to sit through trials of obviously sick women who drown their kids in the bathtub, because they can't handle motherhood, or throw them off the Golden Gate Bridge, or strap them into their tiny back seat carriers while releasing the handbrake and watching the car slide under the water.
The current societal answer is to medicate them, lock them away in prison for life, while allowing their husband or lover to shirk any guilt or responsibility in the situation, free to marry the next woman who crosses his path.
Many of these deaths come because men act out and kill their sex partners, either because they don't want the woman, or the children or because they are hiding the fact that they raped and abused a female relative or neighbor.
And the children that you purport to protect by your stance...what about them? The current health care system refuses to help the babies, invitro or after birth, if parents...but let's be real honest. here, their mother can't afford it.
How is this a principled pro life stance?
Just this week, here in Cincinnati, a man was locked up for beating to death, a 17 month old baby girl, who, for some reason was given by her mother to a friend, who left the baby with this man, who was not related to the child.
I guess she must have ticked him off, somehow. 17 month old babies can do that...maybe she cried too much and disturbed his sleep or interrupted him while he watched TV. Maybe this little girl might have lived had her mother put her up for adoption, which has its own built in hazards for unwanted children.
Surely you remember the Marcus Feisel case, here in very conservative Buckeye land. Little Marcus, unwanted by anyone, even by his foster parents, who locked him in a closet while they went on vacation. He died and they went to jail after authorities were led to his burned and disposed of body.
Simply put, Congressman, your so called principled stance is not correct. It is not pro life, pro women, nor is it pro family. Your stance is quasi religious at best. Your narrowly focused pro life principles do not and never have addressed the varied ramifications and repercussions of this very broken corporate run health care system.
One thing that it is, is political.
You seem to think that you are correctly representing the first district. You appear to think that the first district is monolithic-that the thinking of your “identified” majority is the way everybody thinks in the first district.
This identified majority did not vote for you in 2008. If polls are correct, they are not going to vote for you this year either regardless of what you do. If the polls are correct they are going back to the other Steve, Steve Chabot, another long term GOP yes man cut from the same cloth as John Boehner and Rob Portman, all those guys who followed Bush/Cheney to the brink and are still ready willing and able to drive this country over the cliff right now.
The real majority in the First District elected you, Congressman. The real majority desperately needs health care reform not the status quo. If that means an option for choice, then so be it.
The God you claim to listen to, does not even support your stance, and you know this.
You were sent to Congress to help people, period, not vote your personal principles or the principles of some of your District. You were sent to do what is right and what is right is not always what the so called identified majority wants.
Question- were you in Congress in 1964 and 1965...would you have voted for Civil rights legislation? The so called majority of the First District in Cincinnati, was overwhelmingly against the Civil Rights Act. What would you do-stand on principle assuming your principle was different and just..or would you satisfy your so called identified majority constituents, knowing they were wrong and bigoted in their opinions.
Like it or not, Roe v Wade saves many, many more lives, then you and your like minded Congressman are willing to admit. However, the number of deaths resulting from America's inability to adequately address women's health care is staggering and way too high.
Prevention, real talk and action about contraception and sex education for kids are the best way to combat unwanted pregnancies and would go a long way in cutting back on the need to choose.
There is no woman on the face of this earth who makes that decision lightly. It is gut wrenching with the effects of that decision lasting a lifetime.
I have spent way too much time on the right to choose. Health care reform is not really about the right to choose. It is about instilling more equity in an unequal system for women. This reform is not the one I wanted. But it is one that I and others like me desperately need.
It is a first step toward true change, change that you promised to initiate or support, when you came into my First District neighborhood asking me to vote for you.
I am actually glad that you are a man of principle. However, principles should be coupled with what is just, what is moral and what is right.
Any principle that goes against the well being of a single human being, class, color or gender is bigotry pure and simple.
I hope that when the time comes, you will do the right and just thing and help fix a corrupted and biased health care system.
Respectfully yours

No, I'm not talking about the racist cover article... I'm talking about the one that's got some Cincinnatians upset because it dissed us here in the Queen City.....The diss was by some British wannabe writer exile who apparently flew here to visit the Creation Museum and didn't like his cab ride or something...One of the knocks on the city was that it took us sooooooo long to react to his poorly written tripe...
Well...it took so long to react to this so called slight in the first place because, honestly...who reads Vanity Fair magazine?
I mean, in my community, Vanity Fair is only famous for who it doesn't put on its cover or write about in its pages...
To paraphrase Kanye West....and let me be clear...I despise all things Kanye....”Vanity Fair don't like Black people.”
And as I've said before....I don't deal with anyone or anything, which obviously doesn't like me or my kind. It's my own personal ongoing boycott of all things racist and/or bigoted in America..
Vanity Fair fits that bill to a “t” and apparently a lot of people agree with me...
As for slamming Cincinnati because of the Creation Museum....we have many, many museums in Cincinnati....National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, The Museum Center at Union Terminal, The Cincinnati Art Museum, The Taft Museum, to name just a few....
But the Creation Museum is in Kentucky...not Ohio...and last time I looked...Cincinnati was in Ohio..and so, for that matter, is the airport that this ill informed second class scribe reportedly flew into..so my question is....was he ever in Cincinnati in the first place?
Regardless....I've wasted far too many words on nothing....so let's move on shall we...

No Safe Place
"Without Sanctuary," is an exhibit of photographs depicting America's dark and lengthy dance with the devil from 1882 until 1968, when nearly 5000 Americans died at the end of a hangman's noose-lynched and brutalized by their fellow Americans.
The exhibit has been touring the country drawing record crowds. It will stay at the Freedom Center until May of this year.
"Without Sanctuary" sheds light on a very brutal part of American history. It is not the "comfort history" that is routinely taught in schools across America. This exhibit pulls the drape to uncover the remnants of America's Holocaust, that officially lasted from 1619 until 1865 when slaves were officially emancipated.
While emancipation gave the newly freed slaves many of the same rights as other citizens, lynching was used to take them back.
Winking at a white woman is what many believe was the basis behind lynchings. However rape allegations and accusations were the basis behind about a fourth of the incidents. Most people lynched...men and women....were political and labor activists. And while most of those lynched were in fact Black, many were native American, some were Jewish, and some were Hispanic or other minorities.
All committed the ultimate crime of upsetting the status quo as defined by the majority.
The exhibit also reveals what happened here in the tri state during those years. Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana were not guiltless during this era. In fact, this area, right now, present day, remains the number one location for KKK and White Supremacists activity in America. Come learn the history of our area, and find out the part our ancestors played in shaping this shameful era.
I hope that my fellow Cincinnatians will use this opportunity to go and see "Without Sanctuary." And, while you're at it, take in the Freedom Center, tour it and learn history as it should be taught, honestly and simply in the words, deeds and pictures of those who lived and witnessed it.
And look for me, down there, as well. I just recently became a volunteer exhibit interpreter and am geeked about beginning another journey of historical revelation. "Without Sanctuary" represents my first exhibit. I look forward to sharing it with you.

Issues on Cincinnati November 3rd Ballot
Our libraries need more money because of a cut in funding from the State. State statistics show that Ohio libraries are loaning more videos and DVD movies than books, leading some critics to call them Blockbuster juniors.
Tom Brinkman is a critic...he is a founder of COAST...the anti everything people who want to destroy Cincinnati....In addition to killing public light rail...he wants to kill the libraries, too.
They won't shut down in his neighborhood, but they will be shutdown in mine...if the levy fails...
I live in Avondale, where state stats show that most people borrowing from the library are borrowing movies instead of books. In fact, most of the libraries that show this trend are lower income, urban neighborhoods with smaller libraries.
Regardless of what they may take home, I am not in favor of closing libraries, which is what will happen if this levy does not pass.
I spend time in my local library and it is always filled with young people, who may not be checking out books...However they are sitting there, reading and discussing books or doing homework in a quiet and drama free atmosphere...
For many of them this is the location of the only computer to which they have access...
And it's like that every time I go, no matter what day I go. Because of the internet, I rarely check out books either these days......I sometimes take my laptop to the library just to work...
I don't know the kids there, but they are fascinated seeing me write and will approach me to ask questions about what I do and what they are reading...Usually the questions concern..pronunciation of a word in a book or on its cover....like “chrysanthemum.”
It is a safe haven for these youngsters trying to make sense of the chaos in which they live...The libraries have already been forced to cut hours...
Completely shutting their doors would be a travesty....

Issue 3 is one of those issues that is going to come down to who shows up at the polls to vote. Well, this is no time to support the issue and not take the time to vote for the issue...Casinos and gambling have been voted down six times prior to this....
It is one of those issues where opponents are again attempting to legislate morality...people are going to gamble....whether they do it in state or out....
Because of Ohio's financial situation....they should gamble closer to home...Keep the money and jobs in Cincinnati and Ohio..

Issue 9-Restriction on Light Rail
Issue 9 Hamstrings the city of Cincinnati. It is not just a matter of taking an issue to the people for a vote. It is a blatant attempt to block progress in the city and keep it in the dark ages.
Issue 9 is being sold as a way to keep City Council from arrogantly going against the will of the people and passing a plan to build a budget busting street car system that benefits only a few people downtown...
The proponents of issue 9 says these types of things should be put before the voters...because that what you do in a democracy....
Word to the people....America is not a democracy...it is a Republic....where the people elect people to look at the issues and handle them for us....We already have a way to handle out of control officials...we vote them out of office...
Issue 9 is flim flam from flim flam artists who egotistically think they are smarter than the rest of us..
The truth of the matter is the creators of Issue 9 have written a convoluted amendment that will block all attempts at putting light rail anywhere in the area...
Obama has already said he wants to build bullet trains like they have in Europe and Asia..Issue 9 would prevent this in Cincinnati....
We would be left out of the loop......in a similar fashion as when then Mayor Roxanne Qualls went to Europe to bring restaurants to Cincinnati....and because of the backwardness of this city...the restaurants ended up in Covington and Newport after she left office....
Northern Kentucky continues to benefit from the neanderthal thinking of many in this city..such as those opposed to light rail....
And I'm sure if Cincinnati drops the ball again....Northern Kentucky will figure out a way to pick it up....
Issue 9 should be voted down..

Issue 8-Cincinnati Water
This issue is yet another badly written proposed amendment brought to you by the backward looking cabal of COAST and it's boy Chris Smitherman and his gang of mini me's...
This issue is another attempt to micromanage the system.....Again...America is a republic...not a democracy....and in a republic...we elect officials to handle the issues....We vote for the officials...we have public hearings to tell them how we want to vote.....
This issue is not about privatizing the water...it is about hamstringing our legally elected officials..
Make no mistake about it.....I am totally against privatizing water.....and will happily lead the march on City Hall...if they ever consider it.......
But this issue is something else....it is not what was sold to the people who signed the petitions....
They lied to the petition signers...they....meaning COAST and the NAACP are attempting to manipulate voters...
This is another one that will come down to who shows up at the polls....
If COAST and company wanted to do something positive...they would have written an amendment that honestly states what it does....in other words....they should have written....” ban privatizing water in Cincinnati”......simple.....no confusion....
Issue 8 needs to be voted down...

State Issue 2-Livestock Board
After reading this issue it looks as if Big Agra is attempting a coup...trying to take over the livestock control in Ohio....Their supporters are trying to create a board to control farming and farm animals in Ohio...
Most other states are moving in the opposite direction....
We are living through an economic situation, wholly created by corporate America and their bought and paid for politicians who allow the corporations to Self Regulate....meaning they operate with no control or anyone looking over their shoulder...
Issue 2 is setting up yet another useless board of paid bureaucrats that looks like its doing something when in actuality it is just another puppet organization of Big business..
Issue 2 should be voted down..

Issue 6- Union Terminal
This is an issue to maintain the Union Terminal...Cincinnati needs to keep this building in good repair...
It can never be rebuilt....so it should be taken care of....doing repairs as needed..
Issue 6 should be approved
-0-
Issue 5- MRDD
This is a renewal to continue funding the county to enable it to keep helping the mentally and developmentally challenged residents become more self sufficient..
Issue 5 should be approved.

Whatever you decide....you should vote on November 3rd....
UPDATE.....Even after writing a post, I continue to look at the issue at hand, continue to learn and to tweak my knowledge, so to speak....Sometimes....my first judgment and pronouncement is wrong....and I will admit that.... I was wrong for saying that I will vote for Kevin Flynn...
I will not....Even though he is endorsed by the Charter Party....His endorsement by Right to Life made me look closer......He's just not my kind of guy...because he chooses to relegate me and other women to second class citizenship....We are not equal in the eyes of Mr Flynn when it comes to making decisions that impact our lives as human beings....
Since he won't recognize female cognitive abilities....He cannot represent me in government or anything else for that matter...... So I'm sorry......My bad.....I ain't votin' him...not never.....not nohow.....
My new revised list is...
Qualls.....Young....Quinlivan.....Fischer.....Bortz.....Berding?.....
Watson.....Thomas...and Greg Harris

Cincinnati Media Misses Real Story
Normally that would be the headline when a Black is tapped to do something the first time. Forever, his or her name would be prefixed by “first African American” this or that, whenever he is talked about in the news.
However there is a problem here and the problem is that Gregory H. Williams, looks like a white man. He identifies himself as African American, so we're not spilling any family secrets here.
He is okay with his identity, in fact he wrote a book about it. The stories today point out his relationship to two coaches for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Yet, the media is in a state of flux about how to identify this man. If he were my color, there would be no problem. If his skin is dark, then he is first and foremost identified by his color.
“First African American Named to Lead UC” or some such statement.
The media is still stuck and probably forever will be stuck in telling stories by stereotype, rather than finding the real story inside the facts.
The fact that this man spans and lives and has survived in both worlds is interesting in and of itself regardless of his new position of power, especially since he rose to power after embracing his dark side...
Identifying him the way he identifies himself and then telling the story of how he reached that point is infinitely more interesting than the one the MSM has set itself up to tell.
Their fear of possibly offending someone or of shying away from the facts is why they've lost all credibility in a game they created...
In a time when we're trying to bolster young black men to stay in school and to seek achievement rather than run from it, Gregory Williams is an excellent role model.
I know, I know...I hear you....he achieved in a white skin with full white privilege in play...looking and thinking that he was a white man...until he met his family...all of his family....
Well, after meeting his family...he didn't lie or run away from what he is...he embraced it and went on..
He says he is a Black man...and that is good enough for me...
It is also the story inside the story that should be told...

Labor Day Roundup 2009
Clijsters who recently decided to come back to the tour following an injury and baby retirement, has always had one of those dangerous games for either Williams. She is one of the best returners in the game. And she is a former grand slam champion.
I was surprised when she dusted Venus in the first set and equally surprised when Venus returned the favor in the second set. The outcome of the match didn't bother me too much. Venus is gimpy and it shows. She can't get down on her shots because of the knee. She does need the rest.
She would have met Serena in the semifinals and now this is not going to happen. So Serena has pretty much of a straight shot at the championship with only Clijsters in the way. I am discounting the 17 year old phenom.
She is good, but I don't think she has the guns to take out Serena, or Clijsters for that matter. She would not have beaten a healthy Sharapova either.
The sister act is still alive in the doubles. They paired up after Venus lost and looked completely at ease doing it. They have already claimed two out of three grand slam doubles titles this year. This one will be the third this year, if they win.
They already have a doubles slam in their trophy case..that means in one year they won all four titles..pretty hard to do....Serena is one of only five women who have done it in singles...Stephie Graf did it twice.

The Big Scary Black/Boogie Man
Funny how in all this rigamarole about Obama talking to school kids...nowhere have I seen any file footage of Dubya....Some show Dubya's dad talking to kids...some mentioned that Reagan routinely talked politics with school children...
But nowhere have I seen that footage of Dubya inside a classroom...I'm talking about the time he visited while the planes flew into the World Trade Center Towers on 9/11...
He used to go to schools on a regular basis...yet no one ever accused him of being politically motivated
Some stereotypes just won't die and the big black boogie man is one of them....
White guys can do the same thing over and over for days....but as soon as the black guy does it..then there must be something wrong...something negative....something that is going to hurt somebody...
circle the wagons....lock up the women....hide the kids....
still doing this shit....

George Will
I like George Will. I do listen to him, even if I don't agree with him. I respect his opinions and, honestly, I like the way his mind works....But like I said I tend to come to different conclusions...Except this time..
George has said we need to get out of Afghanistan pronto...and I wholeheartedly agree with him. Afghanistan is another mistake by the Bush Administration that should never have been made given our mistakes and history in that area, in the past, as well as our history with Vietnam.
We should not be there....period.

Labor Day is a day for sports...not politics...
But a word to the O-man.... Mr. President....Health Care without a public option is not reform....

John E. Carter, Doo Wop Legend...R.I.P.
The first concert that I was allowed to attend without parents was down at the Taft Theater, circa 1963-64, and featured The Dells and The Four Seasons. It wasn't Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons at that time, although he was a member of the group... it was just the Four Seasons.
They were the hottest two groups around, along with the Manhattans, who were also on the bill that night. And while I loved all the groups, I was there to hear The Dells do "Oh What a Night" and "Stay in My Corner."
Mr Carter had that distinctive falsetto...unduplicated to this day. His voice is a part of the some the better memories of my life. I still play this music when I wax nostalgic for the old days..
Rest in Peace Mr. Carter. He was 75.

Dysfunctional NAACP A National Problem
Let's start with the good news first, National Board Chairman, Julian Bond has endorsed the upcoming National Equality March scheduled to take place on October 11th in Washington. Bond has been a friend of the LGBT community for a while now. However his stance is contrary to that of the NAACP's president Ben Jealous, who has refused to take a stand on equal treatment for all.
The very popular Jack and Jill Blog has called them on it, actually doing a post entitled “The NAACP hates black people.” You can read about the controversy here.
As I've said repeatedly in my own posting, that Black civil rights organizations are ineffective and out of touch with today's struggles. They seem stuck in the 1950's and 1960's, choosing to ignore the problems which are killing our community today.
What hurts us today is a lack of education, black on black violence, the refusal to recognize the Black LGBT community, HIV/AIDS infecting straight Black women, the government marginalizing of the Black community in favor of the Hispanic community.
Minority communities in this country should be about presenting a united front, because the institutionalized racism in this country affects all of us equally.
Yet, the National NAACP refuses to take any stances on anything in recent memory and especially since Ben Jealous took over as president.
The Cincinnati Chapter has been hijacked by the likes of Christopher Smitherman and his young band of less reknown, and has become a tool of a local white and right wing organization called COAST. COAST stands for Citizens Opposed to Additional Spending and Taxes. It has long been the most conservative anti everything in Cincinnati.
COAST has been "helping" the NAACP in its shortsighted fight against the much needed streetcar and light rail system proposed by Mayor Mark Mallory.
A gay man who happens to work for both COAST and the NAACP since the election of Smitherman, is routinely shown off by Smitherman as his token gay, in an attempt to demonstrate his “enlightenment” on the subject.
This same gay man is the one who actually wrote the abominable anti gay ordinance that was repealed a few years ago. He wasn't in the NAACP at the time.
Until the NAACP, both locally and nationally, begins to address the problems of today's community, it will continue its slide into irrelevance and certain oblivion, making it the perfect fool and front for bigger, more insidious organizations with agendas designed to hurt minority communities.

I just wish people, including the main stream media, would stop saying “Puerto Rico” as if it was some kind of foreign country...
Get a clue people....Puerto Rico is American soil...”they” is “us”....
Points to my main argument for dropping these ethnic prefixes...ie “African” American...or Puerto Rican American.....
These terms are successfully used to keep us divided.....
We, Blacks, have always been Americans...why do we have to look elsewhere to justify our ethnic identity...
I am proud to be an American...not an African American...but an American..especially since “African” in this usage... doesn't necessarily refer to the continent, as was originally intended, when first coined back in the day.....but has everything to do with simply using another word to identify us by color...as in African=Black...
You may not like the above statement...but consider this...there have been no all Black/African genes coming into the American Black gene pool for decades.. since 1619 in fact....geneticists, biologists and anthropologists will tell you that Black Americans are literally fading in color...Anyone who can trace their ancestry back to slavery probably has almost no Black blood in him/her in the first place, despite outward appearance..
Even Dr. Henry Gates, the man who popularized genealogy so that we can track back to the motherland has spent the past couple of weeks trumpeting his “percentage of whiteness” incorporated in his Blackness...as he stands next to his white wife and ¾ white kids...
There is nothing pure about the gene pool...Black or white...if you're American...you're mixed...period..
Time to get over it and move on...

Let the Big Dog Run
He is useless when it comes to detail, that's Hill's job, but his grasp of the big picture is perfect...so it was masterful to turn Big Bill loose on North Korea this week....Dear Leader was cheesing in the photo like he was standing next to Elvis reincarnated...and that's okay...
Mission really accomplished...the girls are home...safe..
Who cares if the honorary Black man doesn't like the half Black man in the White House...they make beautiful music together like Lennon and McCartney...and as every Beatle fan knows...they didn't always get along either...

GOP Mob Rule
Remember back to the year 2000 when all those white people rioted during the hanging chad fiasco during the election in Florida? Turns out the rioters were GOP operatives trucked in from DC to stir up the stupid masses into a frenzy against the coloreds....
Happened again in Florida last night....Can lynchings, beatings and cross burnings be too far behind? Or is that stuff just too blatant for today's modern racist sensibilities?
If these racists, er protestors were really serious...why not a protest to tear up their medicare cards...how about they give back their government sponsored public health care that they don't want the rest of us to have...
How about the GOP racists in Congress and the Blue Dog Democrats...give back their public financed health care coverage....
Bet if they did the money given back would put a nice dent in that deficit they keep screaming about...
Meantime...I'm sure Big Pharma and the Insurance companies are laughing all the way to the bank, as they plan their next government subsidized vacation in Rio or Monaco, or where ever the hell, the nouvo-riche travel these days..

Is it Just me...
Or don't you wish Obama would grow some balls and start taking names and kicking ass?
Back in the day I quit going to civil rights demonstrations because I'd reached my saturation point...I can only stand so much of being called a nigger before I get mad and decide to body slam somebody..
I'm at that point again.....I need to meditate more, I guess..
Turn the other cheek didn't work for me then...and I can't find any Buddhist teachings that I can get lost in to calm me down now...
There were two things I learned from practicinng martial arts......It is better to walk away from a fight....
But during kumite (fighting) it feels so damn good to clock somebody a couple of times upside the head..
It's almost orgasmic in feeling...(I like to fight..feels gooooooooooooood!)
But it represents the ultimate war for self control...”conquer others...win the battle...conquer yourself...win the war”
Grasshopper is listening Mr. President..

Nominees for the “Walking Wastes of Oxygen Award"
The Obama Administration-for not killing DADT, while yet another gay naval officer dies while serving his country...brutally killed on base here in the US....shot three times...his body burned to hide the crime...Rod 2.0
The Cincinnati Enquirer-shrinking and now disappearing, will anyone notice?
Charles Krauthammer- (future Hall of Famer) Usually wrong and continually unrepentant about his ongoing obtuseness...
Sarah Palin-Make no mistake about the naked Emperess, she quit for the money..no other reason, Alaska be damned
Representative Peter King- Me thinks he dost protest too much about everything...can't wait to see his skeletons come falling out of his closet
Blue Dog Democrats- Don't want a public option on health care, then don't take it, but leave the rest of us alone. Choice and competition.. isn't that capitalism...we have choice, your business buddies say they thrive on competition...or do they? Isn't it just more of they want to get paid and damn the consumer...isn't that the real capitalism at work?
John Ensign- Man, those are some cojones...gets Daddy and Mommie to pay for his mistress, all the while playing holier than thou Christian Congressman leading the “do as I say, not as I do”crowd..
Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III- 2009 congressional version of Strom Thurmond and ranking bigot on Capital Hill, except he doesn't have a Black daughter hidden somewhere, does he?
Audra Shay- a walking example that racism is taught....too young to have experienced the 1960's, all the while continuing to live in a bigoted time warp perpetuating the thinking of past generations. She represents the cluelessness that permeates the GOP.
Bill O'Reilly- bigot with a mic who apparently hasn't yet received the email....that old world colonialism is dead...white people can no longer dictate to the masses what is and is not...
Rupert Murdoch- for destroying journalism and the once honorable fourth estate
Brian Kilmeade- the most brain dead of the talking heads on Fox and Friends, who said this week that America is being destroyed because white Americans keep marrying outside their species...huh?
Congressman Steve King for his ongoing fight against Black people over running his white christian nation..

Cincinnati Link to Chicago Cemetery Scandal
The manager and three gravediggers at historic Burr Oak Cemetery, located outside of Chicago have been charged with desecrating more than 300 graves in a scheme going back some four years, say officials. The plan was to empty the graves and resell the plots. Full story here.
Cincinnati son and former heavyweight boxing champion Ezzard Charles is one of many luminaries buried within the Burr Oak confines. Charles who succumbed to Lou Gehrig's disease in 1975, was ranked by ESPN as the 27th greatest fighter of all time, ahead of Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather, Jr, Larry Holmes and Jake LaMotta.
He was preceded by Joe Louis and followed by Jersey Joe Walcott and held the title from 1949-1951.
At one point in time, Burr Oak Cemetery was the only place where Blacks could be buried in or near Chicago. Many people, including Emmett Till, the 15 year old boy who was lynched for allegedly whistling at a white woman, his mother, Singers Dinah Washington and Willie Dixon, among others are also interred there.
Ezzard Charles, who was a friend of my Dad's, was a graduate of Woodward High School. He fought Rocky Marciano twice in two fights that are considered classics among boxing aficionadoes.
Downtown Cincinnati has a street named Ezzard Charles Boulevard in his honor.

If Obama is Serious About Health Care Reform...
Real health care reform would also include limitations on “pain and suffering awards” in malpractice suits...
Real health care reform would make health insurance mandatory for everyone over the age of 21..
Real health care reform would include a reworking of the tax system so that citizens can deduct the cost of health insurance rather than the corporations...
Even a blind man can see that the corporations are going to use any public option to dump employees off their corporate plans and onto the public dole at the first given opportunity..this will benefit their bottom line and make them even more profitable....
So basically, what are they screaming about...they win without the public option...they win with the public option....
The public...gets screwed as usual...Yet the people really need the public option to sorta level the playing field, somewhat....
The health care industry is not in the business of providing health care...it is in the business of making money...period..
Obama is a smart man...he sees and understands that....tossing us to the wolves on this issue is not the way to get re elected....
Understand me....This is one Black woman who votes her conscience and her pocketbook...not her color.....
And I don’t believe I’m alone on this...

Tea Party Questions....
And they were protesting because they don't like the fiscal policies of Barack Obama...
They do have that right....after all....this is America....land of the free, home of the brave and sometimes of the monumentally stupid....
90% of those who protested in Cincinnati yesterday....got a tax cut, not a promise...Are they going to give it back.....,, are they going to refuse to allow Obama to pad their paychecks with the rest of us deadbeats?
They marched on City Hall demanding that the City refuse stimulus money...okay...does that mean that all the senior citizens in the crowd are now going to refuse their social security or their medicare?
Aren't those the socialist programs that they are railing against?
Isn't the patriotic thing to do is to not take any of the government's money? Or is picking and choosing which socialistic activity that you engage in the way to do it..
George Bush/GOP socialism okay.....Barack Obama socialism=equals welfare for black people...not okay....just askin'....I'm trying to understand...
How about all those student loans...did they all come from the private sector...or are there some Pell grants thrown in.....you young'uns refusing that money and allowing your parents to foot the bill for your 8th grade education?
They are protesting policies...policies that were put into place by George Bush...
They were silent while Bush took a government surplus and turned it into two wars costing a billion dollars a month...two wars that we still have to pay for and to deal with....Americans are still dying for lies....
They were silent while Bush gave Obama and us.. a 1.6 billion dollar deficit....
Tax laws haven't been changed for 16 years....Obama didn't do that.....
Since these guys are also against education....how could they know that capitalism in its purest form is a consumer driven situation.... a survival of the fittest, darwinian system..the kind of system that is currently killing us and would kill them...
because 90% of the protestors at the tea party are road kill in a pure capitalistic system... and god forbid that we should ever turn to pure capitalism like George Bush tried to do...by privatizing everything including social security...
Hell....how could they know...since they don't like books or learnin'.....that America is a republic...not a democracy....how could they know that democracies lead to tyranny...without fail...
I would say go back and look at the past eight years if you don't believe me.... but would they understand....given their demonstrated level of understanding and comprehension....
How could they know the difference between capitalism, communism, socialism and fascism...they keep tossing those words around with nary a clue as to what they are talking about....c'mon now...the best way to seem smart...when you don't know...is to keep your mouth shut....
For the record....the Boston Tea Party...the last time I checked....was about "no taxation WITHOUT representation" .......well, we have representation in America...trouble is..the protestors don't like their representation.....King George (I love that) wanted to tax the colonies to pay for the French Indian War..And he wanted to do this without giving the colonies representation in the British House of Lords..
Oh yeah...one other bone to pick....the news media said the crowd was diverse....the phrase was....out of the mouth of my old friend at channel 9...who said "diverse...young, old, men, women"....c'mon Tom....you didn't finish it....young, old, men, women, black, white...
Where was the black-white part of that standard diversity phrase straight out of reporting school...
Maybe because the only black people and brown people down there...were the ones protesting the protestors....huh..ya think?

Leis, Streicher Fearmongering Tactics
You knew it was coming. As soon as voters refused to allocate new tax monies for a bigger jail, that Simon Leis and his boys would start the fearmongering about increased crime on the streets of Cincinnati. And of course, the only "newspaper" in town would back them up. You can read the it here.
Now, the FBI and the Ohio Department of Safety show that crime is down for the past several years. You can check out the stats here.
In fact, the only increase that I can find is in burglaries. All other crimes have been dropping since 2000. Yet, Sheriff Leis, Police Chief, Tom Streicher and Common Pleas Judge Nick Nadel are telling us to brace for an onslaught of criminal violence in coming years, because criminals are being released back onto the streets. Never mind that most of the time the arrests made by Leis and company are for misdemeanor drugs, traffic violations or prostitution in Over the Rhine. And those not fueled by drugs, are fueled by alcohol. Officials admit that those being released are nonviolent offenders. Some of the alleged bad guys with repeat raps are being turned loose with ankle monitors and placed on house arrest.
Since they can no longer lock people up for useless reasons, maybe now is the time to explore other means of fighting crime. Maybe it’s time to stop assuming that all black guys and inner city youth are potential criminals who need to be constantly watched, harassed and locked up when they jay walk or spit on a sidewalk. Just from watching the news you can tell that most of these high speed chases are guys running from a bunch of misdemeanor warrants, rather than a violent or felony crime, in the first place. Somebody has more than two warrants on anything, boot their cars, impound their cars, til they show up in court or leave Ohio. Take their cars and auction them off to make money for the county.
How about some programs designed to get guns off the streets and out of the neighborhoods. How about other means like treatment for alcohol and drug abusers. Or if you want to save some money, take the cops out of the cruisers, park the cars and walk the neighborhoods, or put more bikes on the street, or maybe scooters. Cops walking a regular beat will clear the streets, very quickly. The guys won’t hang on the corners if the cops are hanging there with them, or regularly walking by. How about getting rid of those "white hat" uniforms, in favor of something a little more street, that doesn't shout "cop" at first sighting, or from ten blocks away.
Do more enforcement in the suburbs. I’ve said this before, those who buy drugs from inner city kids don’t live in the neighborhood. If you’re going to throw the book at somebody, how about throwing it at the kid in his parent’s range rover, who drove into Avondale from West Chester to score some weed. Or how about prostitution. Leave the girls and boys who peddle their behinds, selling BJs for 10- bucks, alone. Get them into treatment. Take out the johns who are buying. They don’t live in Over the Rhine either. Make a big deal out of their arrests. Give the Enquirer something to do. Let it print the mugshots of the busted johns on the front page.
Better yet, let's legalize prostitution and tax the hell out it.
How about giving those nonviolent, albeit undisciplined youth a choice, jail or the army, with a minimum of three years. The army needs people and last year it lowered requirements to accept felons. Still won’t take gays, but it will take a lawbreaker. So accommodate America, send those who want to act up in society or not go to school, to the armed forces. If it’s a first offense, they get to choose. If they get busted again, then they go to Afghanistan, period. That gets them off the streets. No new jail needed.
Scare tactics like Leis announcing that deputies are being pulled from metal detector duty at the courthouse are ludicrous. Building more jails has never worked. Police officials and Judges unwilling to evolve past lock em up and throw away the key, need to retire effective immediately.
