Taking Back Their Country.

Will somebody please tell me what kind of symbolism is being invoked tomorrow when the GOP and it's arrogantly imbecilic cousin the Tea Party reads the Constitution during swearing in ceremonies on Capital Hill?

Is this symbolizing the taking back of their country? Inquiring minds want to know?

I thought they'd all read the document and comitted it to memory before they got to Washington.

Othewise how else would they know that Obama is so wrong in his approach to governing the country, other than looking at him, of course.

If they decide to impeach Obama for not being a citizen...are they going to kick John McCain out of Congress, too? McCain was born in Panama...by the way...

What about the one drop rule...is it being written into the Constitution and made to apply to men, since that is the only way it would apply to Obama?

If the new rulers in Washington are really serious about balancing the budget...

1...Are they willing to give back their own health care...when they repeal mine?

2...Are they willing to cut their own salaries....not just their office budgets....by 50%...to show they mean what they say....After all, Why do congressmen need six figure salaries with government spending so out of whack and 15 million Americans are out of work...Congressmen sit on corporate boards and draw salaries...their wives and mistresses are kept employed by lobbyists seeking their votes...and their kids' education are paid for by these same lobbyists, when the kid can't qualify for a legacy grant, or given a job just to keep his daddy or mommy happy and voting for corporate welfare. Will these legacy brats be prevented from using affirmative action grants that were created to help the poor...the name Quayle comes to mind in this context...

If government workers can be laid off or have their salaries frozen to cut the deficit...why not Congressmen and judges? Presidents should be excluded from this salary cut because his is a 24/7 job, unlike Congress. Proof of this is in the incoming speaker's reported office hours and location after 5pm daily.

3....What about the Defense budget....will it be cut and the money redirected into energy programs designed to benefit all instead of just those wealthy enough to invest? When is Congress going to go after Defense contractors and their supporters who have been stealing from the government for years...the names Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Haliburton and Blackwater come to mind..Are these the upcoming investigations that they are promising?

4....How about ending the wars....is that gonna happen quicker? Why are we fighting over there anyway? What's so wrong with a people determining its own method of governance? Why do we have to constantly rebuild the rest of the world in our own image?

5....What happens to all outdated weapons programs...talking about the ones the military says it no longer needs? Why are certain members of Congress still demanding they be funded?

6....What about other useless pork barrel projects? Or is it time to admit that these projects are nothing more than welfare for the wealthy to keep them happy and voting republican?

7....Farm subsidies to rich farmers....the name Bachmann comes to mind...Why are we paying farmers not to grow food? Why are we paying farmers to produce corn for ethanol when most American cars can't use it yet?

8...What about job projects to put people back to work? Why not a new conservation corps to work on roads, highways, bridges and trains? When is Congress going to get serious about job loss and outsourcing that has literally killed the manufacturing base? Why not make all America corporations come back to America to employ Americans?

9....Congress votes this week to raise the debt ceiling.....Isn't that counter to what all the teabaggers and GOP have campaigned against before coming to DC? How are they going to justify this increase....same way they justified extending the Bush tax cuts....pretending they are Nike...just do it?

10....Are they going to make us better off come 2012, considering all they're offering is a re run of 2004 and 2008 in both policy and personnel?

Rather than reading the Constitution....the GOP should read the psychological definition of crazy out loud until it sinks in.....”doing the same thing over and over...but expecting different results..” That's crazy...

Why You Should Vote Democratic on November 2nd

AARP, the advocacy group that represents most senior citizens in America, predicts that upwards of 80% of America's 40 million senior citizens plan to vote on November 2^nd. 63% turned out in 2008. Now, on the surface that looks like a good thing for the GOP, since old people are usually more conservative.

But hold your horses...the GOP and its tea party mini-mes say across the board, that they are going to privatize or change social security, health care and medicare...that's right after they extend the Bush tax cuts and increase the deficit by 3 trillion dollars.

But most seniors are happy with health care, and social security. Not even teabaggers want anyone to touch their social security and medicare.

The only place where seniors are against health care and okay with changing social security in fact, are Ohio and Florida....go figure...

Ohio Congressman John Boehner, in between losing his tan, measuring the drapes for his new office and promising powerful committee chairs to his teabagging buddies has promised to shut down the government ala 1994, if he gets the power..this in addition to privatizing social security and revising health care for seniors.

We all know how well that worked for Newt Gingrich and his Contract on America Congressmen who authored the last government shutdown as a way to embarrass President Clinton.

Boehner and Eric Cantor and  Ms. Mitch McConnell want to try the same thing with Obama.


The Campaign for America has identified some of the biggest lies hanging out there that have people confused about Obama's record. You can find the entire story here.

1. Obama drastically increased the deficit. Fact: Bush's last deficit was 1.4-trillion dollars. Obama's first deficit was 1.2 trillion...Obama's plan DECREASED the deficit
2. Obama raised taxes and screwed the economy. Fact: Obama cut taxes for 95% of America. Some 40% of the stimulus money was wasted on tax cuts that created more debt.
   
3. Obama bailed out the banks. Fact: The Bank bailout was requested by President Bush and implemented by Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson. The bailout package was approved BEFORE Obama was even elected president.
   
4. The Stimulus did not work. Fact: The Congressional Budget Office says, not only did it work, it wasn't big enough and should have been more. Emplyment went up by 3.3 million jobs as a direct result of the stimulus.
   
5. Businesses will create jobs if they get tax cuts. Fact: This is trickle down economics. Businesses hire when they have a demand for product and supplies. If given tax cuts, businesses sit on the money as long as possible, saving it rather than putting it back into the economy or hiring new workers.
   
6. Health Care Reform cost a trillion dollars. Fact: The new health care package cuts the deficit by $138 billion.
   
7. Social Security is going broke. Fact: Social Security is still running a surplus and is good for at least another 25 years. It cannot legally borrow and therefore cannot contribute to the deficit. The big problem is that people are simply living longer with fewer babies dying at birth or shortly thereafter.
8. Government spending takes money away from the economy. Fact: Government money is used to build and repair infrastructure like roads, airports, ports, courts and schools. Very little of the government budget goes to welfare, foreign aid and other social programs. The biggest drain on the national budget is defense and military spending.
   

Bottom line...if the GOP gets in and starts to put back into place the old policies...America will go broke....period.
If the GOP gets back in and pulls back on stimulus money....America will go into a depression, the likes of which has never been seen before.
If the GOP gets back into power and repeals health care...the deficit will triple and probably quadruple...but by then...most of us won't be around to see it..


The choice is yours...Go forward to recovery or go back to the dark ages. For some of us...the good ole days that the teabaggers talk about never existed in the first place.

Finally, Health Care Reform

What kicks in on September 23, 2010.. It's being called the Patient's Bill of Rights and includes:

1. Allowing children under 26 years old to stay on their parents' health care plans 
   
   
2. Prohibiting insurance companies from discriminating against children with pre-existing conditions 
   
   
3. Barring insurance companies from rescinding coverage once a customer becomes sick, or if he or she made a mistake on their application 
   
   
4. Barring insurance companies from putting lifetime limits on health coverage  No out-of-pocket costs for preventive care
5. Insurers are banned from charging more for emergency services obtained outside of a customer's network
   
   
6. Customers are guaranteed the right to appeal insurance company decisions to an independent third party
   
   
7. Customers have the right to choose their own doctor in their insurer network
   
   

President Obama signed the health care reform bill six months ago, to take effect on Thursday. Several misconceptions are still circulating and probably will continue to spread until the above reforms kick into full gear.
Can't imagine anyone wanting to repeal a piece of legislation that will protect their children up to age 27, the way this one does. More reforms are phased in with the bulk of the health care bill coming to fruition in 2014.
That still gives the GOP and the Tea Party plenty of time to rail against the measures, much like they do with social security, medicare and medicaid.
I will really start to worry about the opposition when the teabaggers start giving back their benefits, which will signal their willingness to live in a true free market society and compete along with the rest of us.
However, until I see social security card, medicare card burning parties or old white guys tearing up their social security checks at teabagger rallies....I'm not worried...
If the GOP is serious about repeal or shutting down government...let them first agree to cut off their own health care, give back their pensions and refuse to use medicare or medicaid.

Health Care Reform-A Just and Moral Decision

Four decades ago....after 5 months of debate...after 500 amendments whose only purpose was to kill the bill....and after Everett Dirksen the Majority Leader in the Senate at that time, shut down this country's longest filibuster which lasted 534 hours, 1 minute and 51 seconds...After cloture and the vote..

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 became law.

This was not a perfect bill. In fact, more work was done on it the following year, in 1965. But it was an historic moment for America. One more time, we as a country, have come to look out over that precipice again, and once again, race plays a very big part in the divide. But this time around it is not only about race. It is about fairness and equality between the haves and have-nots of all colors, creeds and genders.

It is about health care and reforming the system as we know it today. It is a fight that began with Teddy Roosevelt and now comes down to Barack Obama.

I'm not going to rehash the latest national debate, because it won't be over until later today. However, I do want to look backward and remind you from where we've come.

In 1964, only 12,000 of more than 3,000,000 Blacks students in the South, went to integrated schools.

Medgar Evers had been dead less than a year...the same held true for John F. Kennedy and the three freedom riders lynched and brutally murder down in Mississippi. 1964 was the year after the March on Washington and Martin's “I have a dream” speech.

The White House woke up, finally and from that awakening came HR 7152, which was passed by the House and sent to the Senate. Up to this time the conservatives in Congress would simply filibuster to kill any bill that spoke to civil rights for Black people. This obstruction back then was peopled with southern congressmen, just like today, with a few exceptions.... Boehner....McConnell...Kyl.....Cantor...and DeMint...to name a few. The fight over civil rights for Blacks was very violent, very bitter and long lasting.

Talking about partisanship and politics, Senator Dirksen said at the time...

"I trust that the time will never come in my political career when the waters of partisanship will flow so swift and so deep as to obscure my estimate of the national interest. . . . I trust I can disenthrall myself from all bias, from all prejudice, from all irrelevancies, from all immaterial matters, and see clearly and cleanly what the issue is and then render an independent judgment."

While, today, most of the solid opposition to health care comes from the GOP, it should noted that Everette Dirksen was a Republican working with a Democratic President, Lyndon Johnson. Dirksen, working across the aisle delivered the Republican votes to pass the Civil Right Act of 1964.

Democrats had actually splintered and if the passage back then had depended solely on Democrats, there would have been no civil rights act of 1964.

If America is to have Health Care Reform today, it will have to come from one party...the Democratic Party, because lesser minds and hearts control the Republican Party, wielding fear and prevarication as their weapons of choice to goad their followers..

Prior to cutting off that filibuster and gaining cloture, Everette Dirksen had been castigated and metaphorically skinned alive by Blacks and Black newspapers of the time, portraying him as no different than the other racists, conservatives and segregationists who peopled the Congress and American government. He was not loved by Black people. It would have been easy for him to turn his back. But Dirksen it turned out, was a man of principle , guided by justice and morality.

40 years later, Congress is still peopled with conservatives, racists and would-be segregationists, who would jump at the chance to turn back the clock to pre-1964 levels.

However, I don't think there is one man or woman in the House or Senate today, who has the courage of Everette Mckinley Dirksen, the senator from Illinois.

There is something about those Senators from Illinois...they seem to see things differently from the rest of them....kind of like what Robert Kennedy said right around the same time....

“Some men see things as they are and ask why. I dream of things that never were and ask why not.”

Dirksen prodded the Senate to step up by saying,

"I appeal to all Senators. We are confronted with a moral issue. Today let us not be found wanting in whatever it takes by way of moral and spiritual substance to face up to the issue and to vote cloture."

Health Care Reform is a moral issue and a just issue that will not go away. Hopefully the House will agree.

Jim Barack The Hammer Obama Shaft Kelly

I'm at that point in the blaxploitation movie on loop in my head, where I'm ready for some action. We know who the good guys are, we know who the bad guy is, and we know who is supposed to be saved and why.

I'm ready for the big chocolate gun carrying, Jim Brown lookin' actor to whip it out and tell everybody;

“we got to go this way, 'cause if we go back we die, 'n I ain't ready to die just yet!”

The alpha male has spoken....the paler hued Beta Boy glares, and makes an ugly face, like he's going to do something. But he knows on a good day, he can't whip this Negro's ass in a fair fight. So reluctantly, Beta Boy drops his show for the ladies and turns in the direction that Chocolate Thunder wants to go, and starts walking, while the rest of the group meekly follows. No way are they getting in between these two fools, because while they quietly admit that Beta boy, may be their preferred cup of tea, they also know he don't know his ass from a hole in the ground and is totally useless in this situation.

Chocolate Thunder may be straight up crazy, but he knows what he's doing and can help them get home alive, and like all good Negroes, he is going to sacrifice himself and die so that all the good folks can live a better life, while remembering him fondly in their dreams of the good ole days.

So who would you follow? Camera ready Beta Boy or Crazy as a bedbug Chocolate Thunder?

Easy answer for me...I'm going with crazy, because sometimes the tried and true won't work and you can never go back and sometimes you can never go home again. So you keep marching forward until you see daylight or the end of the trail or the town located just over the hill.

President Obama was supposed to be the one. He was supposed to be the Jim Brown-Chocolate Thunder crazy, who was going to ride into DC and teach all the status quo Beta Boys and Catatonic Neanderthals how to save the people.

But what we've gotten so far, from Obama, is a weak imitation of Carlton, the dimwit cousin from Fresh Prince. All flash but so far, no substance.

I am truly troubled by all this talk of backing up and backing away from Health Care Reform, just because Ted Kennedy's seat was lost in Massachusetts.

One seat, people...ONE STUPID SEAT!.....That still leaves an 18 seat majority in the Senate. It's still a Democrat majority...I don't see the problem. Beta Boy Scott is singing the same song as the rest of his frat club-no plan, no clue. So the majority has to work a little harder. That's why it's called a job!

The American people or those who still have jobs, work everyday, without health care, without guaranteed holidays or carved in stone 4600-dollar yearly pay raises.

Now comes President Obama's first State of the Union Address and from the news reports, he seems more intent on placating us with peripheral bullshit then with delivering the goods. We don't need no stinkin' bipartisanship. We don't need feel good. We don't need 156 different ways to say “Change” in the course of a one hour speech, before a house full of unctuous people pretending to care.

Just once, I would like to see a State of the Union speech where all these fools sit on their hands and listen, quietly to what is being said.

We don't need the pep rally. I don't even care if they twitter to their follower twats, as long as they do it quietly and STFU!

So what should Obama say and do in his State of the Union Speech?

The American people need a jobs program. It's gone way past trickle down, need to work through the system kind of fixes. The guys at that top are doing what they always do, sitting on the money and jamming the feeder pipes so that nothings leaks down or out to the masses.

The American people need some liquid plumber, pronto. They need a powerful motorized snake to unclog the drain and get folks back to work. “F” the system...as in flush the system in order to get it going. We thought Obama would use an executive order or two to mandate some work projects to begin yesterday.

And to make sure that minorities get their fair share, open an office where minority workers or independent workers...those not allowed into the trade unions...to sign up and get hired and put to work alongside the union guys... If a contractor can't or won't use the independents, then his company can't work the project. This does away with the contractors who can't find anybody to work for them except illegal aliens.

Unemployment in my neighborhood is about 20%....yet....there is a lot of renovation going on the houses here.....all of it being done by whites and Hispanics.....in a nearly 100% Black neighborhood...now how does that happen? Not only do we no longer own the homes, we can't get work on them either. And you can bank that its happening everywhere else, too.

After he talks about Jobs, Obama needs to get back to the alphabet...DADT, DOMA, and ENDA. No more talk that it is going to happen. We need to know when it is going to happen. What day is it going to happen? The future is here, now.

Finally, he should now have a real plan for health care reform instead of that bill which is really an insurance industry subsidy program like the stimulus/subsidy program was for Wall Street. Dropping the age limit on medicare to give America what he and Congress already have in their own health care would be a start.

Better yet....why not just cancel the speech....and sit on camera and sign executive orders that really jump start the economy and let the people see that Chocolate Thunder has arrived and is ready willing and able to do crazy for the people in order to get this country back on track.

If Obama wants us to coalesce around the “good parts” of his plan, then let's drop the age limit on Medicare and give America what our congressmen already have. Why can't we have what you got?

If we can't have health care reform, then I want something back from Congress...like maybe cancel the ability to automatically give themselves a raise each and every year....2009 raise was 4700-dollars per congressman...or cancel their health care and live like the rest of us..

On the question of jobs...isn't it about time to think about bringing back the WPA?

Year 1 BHO

I am still thankful that Barack Obama was elected president of the United States last November. I believe that the country turned and started going in the right direction after being off kilter for so many years.

I still think that one year later, he was and remains the best choice for this country.

Am I 100% happy with the way things have gone this past year? No.

When Obama put together his “change” team, he didn't really change things. He added a few women, a couple of women of color. He added a few openly gay and lesbian people. However, from the beginning he stuck with the same white guys, maybe a little younger, but those who espoused the same kind of stuff and policies that got us into this mess in the first place. I was not happy with the likes of Geithner, Summers, or the Generals put in charge of those misguided fiascoes Iraq and Afghanistan. One year in, I am less happy with his choices.

Having been raised on politics from the cradle, I know that things can't and won't turn around quickly and this has been a problem for Obama. He won by convincing a lot of people to vote for him who don't know politics and furthermore, never took an interest in politics prior to his coming. These new voters didn't hear him tell them, it was going to take some time. As with all things these days, new voters are fanatics with miniscule attention spans and little or no patience for the actual work that needs to be done to make everything seem miraculous. To put it another way, the new voters are working in dual processing capability while Obama and the government are operating in ms dos.

Everybody bought the “Barack the Magic Negro” scenario. In other words, we made this guy president now all he has to do is walk into the Oval office and wave a wand and vanquish all of our problems..the budget magically balances...the deficit goes back to a surplus like when Clinton left... everyone gets their dream job.....Black people are seen as worthy.....Wall Street and big corporations grow a conscience... so called Christian evangelicals link arms and sing Cum by ya with the LGBT community....don't ask, don't tell goes away and gay people are allowed to get married..... and the treasury draining quagmires called the war on terrorism, ends...

Easy...Ala Kazam, one, two, three and poof....America fixed....American dream still in tact, duct tape no longer needed...

Except this is not what happened...Barack, the touchy feelie basketball playing candidate morphed back into Barack the cool, Barack the logical, Barack the pragmatic, Barack the aloof college professor who seems more willing to compromise and work the status quo, than to shake things up and move forward. The community organizer has gone into hiding at a time when the country really, really needs a rabble rousing organizer.

In Barack Obama, we were voting for more FDR. What we got, apparently, is a little unexpected and quite a bit maddening.

The newly baptized are defecting in droves...fearful of the change they say they want and unwilling to wait for it. While Obama works behind the scenes, talking quietly with his colleagues, demanding they find solutions, he leaves the people adrift, in limbo, unable to see the workings of his mind.

Barack the Communicator is not communicating, nor showing any understanding that sometimes silence communicates louder than the spoken word. The new converts need a constant fix or suffer painful withdrawal, which sends them scampering to find a new supplier. This is what's happening to Obamaville.

The wing nuts have found their leaders on the radio and on television. The Glen-Greta-Sean-Bill-Rush-Laura-Sarah hit parade is in full swing having stolen the bully pulpit. They don't have any solutions, but they throw a helluva good party, where the crazies can safely give voice to their fear of change and racist assumptions that minorities are destroying "their " country.

From the beginning of his campaign, Obama has been painted in pink...too soft for the job....He's not by any stretch of the imagination. But he does need to flex his muscles in public, from time to time.

How can he flex?

He can bring our troops home. No surge in Afghanistan. We had it won, until Iraq jumped off ...Time to cut our loses and come home.

He can put people back to work. He can rebuild schools and infrastructure to the same 56-billion dollar tune that this country has spent in Iraq to build schools and infrastructure. Health care reform is important...but if you ain't working and there is no public option, you have no house or car and no way to feed your family..you can't afford it..so...jobs are the key here. So is another stimulus. The first one wasn't big enough to stimulate a consumer driven economy which we are.

This second stimulus, if it comes about, should put the money directly into the pockets of the consumers, namely us...And I'm not talking 600-dollars....I'm talking 30-thou per person. You want people to spend money then give them some..They will pay their bills, save some and spend some creating the very cycle this country needs right now.

He can go ahead and suspend DADT in the military by executive order. He can close Guantanamo, bring the alleged terrorists into this country to fill the empty jails that populate the small towns and put people back to work as guards or in support of the prison system (I am truly baffled by Neocons and good ole boys who fight tooth and nail so that we all can have as many guns as we want, yet when Barack says bring them to this country...they cower in fear of a few terrorists).

The biggest fallacy has been Barack's clinging to trickle down economics....In other words, prime the pump that is Wall Street...and eventually the people will be taken care of...It has never worked...and it never will.

It is still Voodoo Economics, period.

The banks are sitting on the money, refusing to hire, yet rewarding themselves with billions of dollars in job well done bonuses. Big corporations are still figuring out ways to ship their profit and our jobs overseas. They are still looking out for themselves.

We need some good old fashioned community organizer type blackmail to get these guys to either create jobs or bring some jobs and manufacturing back home. I thinking that Obama should ask Jesse or Rev Al on the QT, just how you blackmail corporate America. They been doing it for years, so put their expertise to work for all of us.

As I've said before, President Obama cannot do it alone, change must come from all of us.

However we chose him to lead and that is what I expect him to do....Lead...I think he is smart enough to figure that out...I just hope it's sooner rather than later.

Driehaus Still Won't Get My Vote!

My ex Congressman voted for the health care reform bill last night and today I get a letter from the Obama Administration telling me I should thank Driehaus for acting courageously...

Well pardon me, but I define courageous a bit differently. Courageous is a vote that would have passed without selling out half the population and half of his constiuency. Women deserve good health care just like men....there is no gray area here....The right to choose is an integral part of that..

Woman's Work

My mom has a saying about my dad....one of many since they've been together 59 years...this one refers to how he fixes things...

Now...he can fix anything...and I do mean anything...He is the reason that I love working on stuff...that gene comes from him and my mother's father...my granddad....

Their ability to put things back together when broken..warped my thinking about men for a long time...because I grew up thinking that all men could fix anything...just give them a screw driver, some nails and a hammer...and BAM.....fixed and functioning...

Imagine my surprise when I grew up and found that most men don't know which end of the screw driver to use.....can't tell channel locks from pliers or a socket wrench from a pipe wrench...

I was absolutely shocked when one of my best buddies pulled me aside one night after we were talking with a group of people during which I referred to a stick shift car....he didn't know what I was talking about...so he asked me privately to keep his man cred in tact...

You know what man cred is all about...appearing to know everything about anything and faking it if necessary...

Anyway....my mom has always said about my dad that he always does things twice...he fixes it...then he fixes it right....she says I'm the same way....

I disagree with that statement, since I do read the instructions first....My dad does too...but don't tell anyone because he wants to keep his man cred in tact too...

We have a whole government full of men who can't fix anything.....and refuse to read the directions, scan the public opinion polls or face the reality of which way the wind is blowing....

They've spent their entire congressional careers faking their concern for the American people as they laugh all the way to the bank, after pocketing the money thrown at them by slimy lobbyists.

Which brings me around to my topic....Maybe the men of the GOP need to step aside...while their man cred is still in one piece, albeit hanging by a thread... and let the women of the GOP take over..

I'm not talking Sarah or the Cheney siblings...I'm talking Olympia...

Olympia Snowe grabbed the reins yesterday in the Health Care Reform act....It wasn't a republican thing...it wasn't a democratic thing.....

It was a woman thing that she did, in looking out for others...

Possibly at the sacrifice of her politics.....I don't think she will lose her seat....but the good ole boys of the GOP....jealous at being disobeyed and upstaged by one of their women...will probably make her life miserable for this one vote...

I''m sure they're grumbling that she should have stayed quietly in her place ....like where they want to put Nancy Pelosi....

Insurance companies say they will raise rates if health care reform passes...

The big health care companies say they will be forced to hike rates if the Obama Administration pushes through health care reform for citizens.

Do we need anymore arguments in favor of a public option? Sounds to me like they are calling our bluff.

Here is what they are saying:

It's kind of like that scene in the movie the Ten Commandments where Moses played by Charleton Heston is in the throne room talking to his pretend brother Ramses played in all his bald sexy splendor by Yul Brenner.....Where Moses tells Ramses the next curse to reign down on Egypt will come from Ramses lips....and Ramses struts and fumes and parades his half naked self around and tells Moses, to get the f*** out of his house or he is gonna kill him for real....

Moses says okay and saunters out the door to go to his mother's house to drink wine, and eat bitter herbs and unleaven bread...thereby creating the Passover observance....Ramses still cussing and still not listening to what his pretend brother had just told him...tells his generals to go kill all the first born Hebrew babies and thereby seals the fate of his own son....

Big insurance isn't listening.....they still think they can run game on us....threaten us with higher premiums....telling us.....we will have to pay more money for their shitty service....those of you who can afford their shitty service......I'm one of those they won't insure....

They would have us believe that if the government sets up competition....in other words....gives citizens another option...that the competition will force them into a rate hike....I thought competition always drove down prices....not up....but then again...the GOP has spent the last 9 years telling the American people that up was down, round was flat, black was white and so forth and so on....I guess the insurance companies must be thinking...well it worked for them....no it didn't.....

We must all collectively have “STUPID” stenciled on our foreheads...Just ask the grocery stores...are people buying the really expensive name brands these days.....or are they buying the just as good store brand generic........hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Let the Insurance Industry go ahead and raise its rates after health reform becomes law....Even Republicans and wingnuts fighting tooth and nail against health care won't stay with an insurance company that raises its rates, and the government has a public option in place...

You know it's true.....don't believe me....how many Congressmen are giving back their government health plans now...fearing we're drifting into “socialism” as they say....

How many wingnuts do you see talking about tearing up their medicare/medicaid government health care or resigning from the government program to help out the insurance giants by signing up for their programs.....

None.....Nada.......Nyet!

And who gives a rat's ass if no GOP member of Congress refuses to sign onto the bill....I don't...

Public Option is the only option...anything less is merely a subsidy for the Insurance Industry..

Or...

Take the age limits off medicare....then there is no need for insurance companies at all...and everyone has insurance.....

Labor Day Roundup 2009

Venus Williams playing on one leg is good enough to comfortably beat just about everybody else on the WTA Tour. However there are a few exceptions besides her sister, and Kim Clijsters is one of them.

Clijsters who recently decided to come back to the tour following an injury and baby retirement, has always had one of those dangerous games for either Williams. She is one of the best returners in the game. And she is a former grand slam champion.

I was surprised when she dusted Venus in the first set and equally surprised when Venus returned the favor in the second set. The outcome of the match didn't bother me too much. Venus is gimpy and it shows. She can't get down on her shots because of the knee. She does need the rest.

She would have met Serena in the semifinals and now this is not going to happen. So Serena has pretty much of a straight shot at the championship with only Clijsters in the way. I am discounting the 17 year old phenom.

She is good, but I don't think she has the guns to take out Serena, or Clijsters for that matter. She would not have beaten a healthy Sharapova either.

The sister act is still alive in the doubles. They paired up after Venus lost and looked completely at ease doing it. They have already claimed two out of three grand slam doubles titles this year. This one will be the third this year, if they win.

They already have a doubles slam in their trophy case..that means in one year they won all four titles..pretty hard to do....Serena is one of only five women who have done it in singles...Stephie Graf did it twice.

Ted Kennedy 1932-2009

I was at Madison Square Garden the night that Kennedy spoke those words, as part of one of the greatest speeches that I have been privileged to hear with my own ears. I didn't intend to hear them. I was tired, having worked the convention all day as part of the ABC convention coverage team of reporters.

I was sitting in the back, in the reporters area, because Sam Donaldson wanted time on the floor. We had to rotate on the convention floor, and I gladly gave up my time, because I'd filed several stories that day and really just wanted to get back to my hotel, at 7^th and 52^nd. The Sheraton Center was six blocks away and as I had done every day in New York, I'd walked to the Garden, because it was quicker and faster than trying to drive.

At that time of night, I would have preferred to drive back, but, you know, NY gridlock is real gridlock. So as I prepared for my late evening stroll, Ted Kennedy came to the microphones to give his concession speech the night before Jimmy Carter took the nomination for the second time.

The reporter's area was always a noisy place, after all we were working filing stories, writing stories, BS-ing with our friends that we hadn't seen since the last major news broke where ever in the world. It was especially never quiet when politicians rose to speak. We'd heard the speeches over and over. Usually the air rang with witty quips or jokes about the politician and who he was screwing at the time, and Ted Kennedy was no exception.

Except that night. Within a few seconds of opening his mouth, the whole room got silent and stayed that way to the last word. Kennedy had gotten the attention of the very jaded press corps. We turned on our tape recorders and sat back and listened, really listened. To use that old cliché about hearing a pin drop, well, you could, it was that quiet in the cavernous room. It didn't seem as if any of us breathed during the entire speech.

And after it was over, there was a collective “exhale,” with many of us having the feeling that the convention was nominating the wrong man for president.

In retrospect, I don't think so. Ted was not cut out to be president. He was cut out to be what he was, the major motivator on Capitol Hill for us little folk. His name is on more than 3000 pieces of legislation on civil rights, health care and economics benefiting the people, not the corporations. He is the last of those who actually believed they were sent there to work for us. He was made to be a Senator and that's what he was.

Prior to that speech in 1980, I met the Senator and his son Ted junior in 1978, shortly after Ted the younger lost his leg to cancer. They were both engaging and a bit overwhelming for me. I was cool, but I was actually standing next to, talking to, shaking hands with one of the legends behind the myth that was Camelot. Chappaquidick aside, I will never forget those feelings or memories. I remember every word he said to me that day.

Kennedy's legacy to America is health care reform. He didn't live to see it passed. But I do hope that Congress will pass it in his memory as living testament to the man that he was.

May you find peace, Senator. You've earned it.

Maybe he is just one of the guys among his friends and at work...

Maybe he's never been disrespected by cops at a traffic stop in his neighborhood, or pulled out of his house in handcuffs or beaten in his own driveway..

Yep...

Just another guy with an assault rifle...outside a rally for health care reform, which is designed to help those who cannot help themselves...Many of whom look like him..

The fight to preserve the status quo....

You know, I have been waiting for the explosion...the eruption of anger to happen after seeing that white man with a gun strapped to his leg at an Obama rally, earlier this week....

I have been waiting for somebody to say something. I have been waiting for the people to get really, really mad at the blatant contempt that permeates these health care sessions and dominates the debate on reform...

Because it has gone far past outrage....These people show absolute contempt for Obama. They don't respect him and they have no fear showing it because they think they are still the majority..

Maybe they are...nobody else is talking....The silent majority is silent...sitting on its obese ass, while these fools claim the streets and take over the public discourse..

Most seem more wrapped up in whether Michael Vick is going to play football because he allowed a damn dog to be killed, then by the lack of respect being shown for Obama..

It's not new to me....Every person like me has seen it before...We grew up with this shit...

We grew up seeing white t-shirt wearing, beer bellied white guys and their foaming at the mouth rabid women, holding guns and nooses..with dogs on leashes...as little black kids try to do something as simple as enroll in public school...

Or daring us to walk down the street, sit at their lunch counters, swim in their pools, move into their neighborhoods, or make the mistake of driving down their streets in the dark, alone.

Because when you're black, female and lesbian, you're the walking, talking antithesis of the status quo in America, and somebody's always in your face reminding you to stay in your place or be killed...

The message since I was born.....”be a good little nigger and stay in your place...or we may be forced to do something...ugly...”

Obama has refused to do that...So the intimidation is in full swing....Signs with ugly messages....shouts and taunts from KKK progeny who want “their” country back.....

Republican Lies About Health Care Reform

The GOP policy of destroying Obama at all costs is in high gear with its big guns blatantly lying to the American people.

Most people seem to know better....Yet the base is crazier than ever...Not surprising when you have statements like the one below being thrown at them by their so called leaders.

As more Americans delve into the disturbing details of the nationalized health care plan that the current administration is rushing through Congress, our collective jaw is dropping, and we’re saying not just no, but hell no!

The Democrats promise that a government health care system will reduce the cost of health care, but as the economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, government health care will not reduce the cost; it will simply refuse to pay the cost. And who will suffer the most when they ration care? The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s “death panel” so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their “level of productivity in society,” whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.

Health care by definition involves life and death decisions. Human rights and human dignity must be at the center of any health care discussion.

Rep. Michele Bachmann highlighted the Orwellian thinking of the president’s health care advisor, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the brother of the White House chief of staff, in a floor speech to the House of Representatives. I commend her for being a voice for the most precious members of our society, our children and our seniors.

We must step up and engage in this most crucial debate. Nationalizing our health care system is a point of no return for government interference in the lives of its citizens. If we go down this path, there will be no turning back. Ronald Reagan once wrote, “Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth.” Let’s stop and think and make our voices heard before it’s too late.

Now the real deal on Health Care is this...

No one is mandating that old people go out and kill themselves...or prepare to kill themselves to make way for the young....

This seems to come from the part of the bill that addresses “end of life planning.”....you know what that is...Hospice care...living wills....etc...all the stuff that hospitals already ask you about when you check into the hospital...right now....

Nobody is advocating euthanasia....however...I personally think it is a topic that needs addressing...because some of us don't want to hang around...depending on a machine to breathe and some nurse to wipe our ass when we soil ourselves..

That is not living to me..and I have already made it clear to my sisters...that if they love me..

They will pull the plug..if I haven't already done it myself...

The proposed legislation does mandate that medicare pay for consultations between doctors and patients about end of life decisions...Medicare currently does not do that...

At the other end of the spectrum...the pro-birthers are telling their people that the bill will make them pay for other women's abortions.

The real plan is to get insurance companies to pay for birth control and abortions as part of insurance health plans....

Insurance companies do right now pay for viagra and other male enhancements for men, while refusing to cover birth control or any abortion procedures for women...

Wingnuts are also lying by saying the Obama plans to ban all private health care...Not true...once the plan passes into law....all existing plans will be grandfathered in to larger risk pools...forcing the cost to policy holders down....

Less money coming out of your pocket in other words...These wingnuts are simply buying the BS being shoveled around by the health care industry..

The wingnuts are hyperventilating about government run health care...saying the government can't run health care programs...

Well....what do they think Medicare and Medicaid are....private corporations?

The GOP has maintained that government will begin to ration health care....Hell...the insurance companies do that now....

I mean...they refuse coverage to persons deemed to have pre existing conditions....They refuse coverage for no reason what so ever...even when you've paid all your premiums...

And....no matter what you do...in your work health coverage...it goes up every year..whether you've used it or not....

Screwed no matter what....Given a choice....I like the reform plan..

I just wish people, including the main stream media, would stop saying “Puerto Rico” as if it was some kind of foreign country...

Get a clue people....Puerto Rico is American soil...”they” is “us”....

Points to my main argument for dropping these ethnic prefixes...ie “African” American...or Puerto Rican American.....

These terms are successfully used to keep us divided.....

We, Blacks, have always been Americans...why do we have to look elsewhere to justify our ethnic identity...

I am proud to be an American...not an African American...but an American..especially since “African” in this usage... doesn't necessarily refer to the continent, as was originally intended, when first coined back in the day.....but has everything to do with simply using another word to identify us by color...as in African=Black...

You may not like the above statement...but consider this...there have been no all Black/African genes coming into the American Black gene pool for decades.. since 1619 in fact....geneticists, biologists and anthropologists will tell you that Black Americans are literally fading in color...Anyone who can trace their ancestry back to slavery probably has almost no Black blood in him/her in the first place, despite outward appearance..

Even Dr. Henry Gates, the man who popularized genealogy so that we can track back to the motherland has spent the past couple of weeks trumpeting his “percentage of whiteness” incorporated in his Blackness...as he stands next to his white wife and ¾ white kids...

There is nothing pure about the gene pool...Black or white...if you're American...you're mixed...period..

Time to get over it and move on...

Remember back to the year 2000 when all those white people rioted during the hanging chad fiasco during the election in Florida? Turns out the rioters were GOP operatives trucked in from DC to stir up the stupid masses into a frenzy against the coloreds....

Happened again in Florida last night....Can lynchings, beatings and cross burnings be too far behind? Or is that stuff just too blatant for today's modern racist sensibilities?

If these racists, er protestors were really serious...why not a protest to tear up their medicare cards...how about they give back their government sponsored public health care that they don't want the rest of us to have...

How about the GOP racists in Congress and the Blue Dog Democrats...give back their public financed health care coverage....

Bet if they did the money given back would put a nice dent in that deficit they keep screaming about...

Meantime...I'm sure Big Pharma and the Insurance companies are laughing all the way to the bank, as they plan their next government subsidized vacation in Rio or Monaco, or where ever the hell, the nouvo-riche travel these days..

It's Only Socialism When We Say it Is

More GOP hypocrisy on health care reform...

I'm still stuck on this health care reform thing, since it affects me so personally. Without going into detail, I'm one of those uninsurables because I have a pre-existing condition.

And although I'm sometimes extremely easy....I'm never cheap...If you want to change my mind, then give me something to change my mind for...

Meaning, if the GOP can offer me a better solution...I will be more than happy to take it...

So what is the republican health care reform plan...the one they've waited until now to reveal, when they would've had an easier time of it when they controlled the White House and Congress. Hell, we could all of had GOP health reform a long time ago...

I can only guess that it wasn't so important to help the people. W and Darth were too busy fighting terrorists and spending or stealing our money, depending on your point of view.

The fat cats on wall street were too busy bilking the public of massive amounts of money to care or to worry about whether the population was chaffing under the strain of a lousy health care system..

During his speech yesterday at the National Press Club, Michael Steele talked about the GOP health plan:

1.It proposes online posting of prices and outcomes for tests and procedures
2.It offers a single simple billing form
3.A paperless health care system
4.Emphasis on preventive care
5.Portability of health coverage between jobs.

All five of these Grand Old Party proposals, as put forth by their chairman Steele are contained in the Democratic bill currently working its way through Congress...

That's the Democratic bill that the GOP, and others are claiming is a Socialistic measure designed to take away our freedoms..

Steele even called it Socialism in the same speech, yesterday, right after he listed the items of his proposal....He said the Democrats are attempting to turn us toward Socialism.

How...and Why is it only Socialism when the Democrats say it?

If you look at what Steele said yesterday....both sides seemingly want the same thing....Isn't or shouldn't that lead to bipartisan cooperation?

Or is the real game....get the Black man in the White House and return him to his place...

Still governing like they think all of us are stupid..
