The VP and Mista- Joe Biden and Paul Ryan Aftermath

The Vice Presidential debate is over and if nothing else, it was extremely entertaining, if you like watching adults beat up on snarky, petulant children. The VP in the debate was of course Joe Biden, However, I don't really know what to call Paul Ryan. He didn't want to be called “congressman,” which he is and has been for the past 14 years. He wanted to be addressed as “Mr” instead, which is his right, I would guess.

So what, is this, his way of distancing himself from the most do nothing Congress in the history of America? He can use any title that he wants, but it doesn't erase the fact that he is one of the most extreme members of the worthless, teabagger 112th

The night was heavy on foreign policy, which was good, considering the moderator was the very accomplished Martha Raddatz, ABC's foreign policy expert reporter. Even Joe Biden said that Martha had been to Iraq and Afghanistan more than either of the contenders sitting at the table with her and she showed off her stuff, too amidst the bombast that was flying around the room.

One also got the sense that women live in America, too. Talk did turn briefly to Abortion. Both men are Catholic, with Ryan vowing to impose his personal belief system onto the country at the first given opportunity. He believes life begins at conception, a belief that effectively relegates women to baby-making machines. Biden also claims the pro life label, but said he does not believe that others, namely women, should live by his personal belief system. He said women should govern their own lives, just as men do.

Still no mention of immigration or unemployment, two issues that heavily affect those of us who are not white and male. Maybe next time. Biden was able to expose the fact that most of what the Romney/Ryan ticket claims are differences in foreign policy from The President are in fact not differences at all. The policies are practically mirror image to what is currently in play. No difference.

If there was a winner, it was Joe Biden, who worked through a lot of euphemisms to keep from calling Paul Ryan a liar to his face. He got his points across without having to go there. Biden accomplished what he set out to do and that was to wipe any perceived egg off of President Obama's face, since most pundits feel he screwed the pooch in the first debate a couple of weeks ago. Conservative columnist George Will, who was ecstatic at Romney's performance two weeks ago, went so far as to say that the only reason Barack Obama is up in the polls in the first place is because he is Black. Can't wait for his column this week. Probably will say Biden won because Obama is Black.

MR Ryan had to prove that he could handle himself in the spotlight. He got rattled, but managed to survive. He proved to be a good sidekick, however, there is much need to grow and improve, if he intends to claim the top spot on the teabag ticket in 2016. Al Sharpton called Ryan a fibber instead of a liar-said he had not yet grown into full blown liar status.

Honestly, I can't imagine that there are people who haven't yet made up their minds about this election. It's over, one way or another. It is time to vote.

Vote Responsibly on November 6th.

Another GOP Bimbo Eruption

The Republican Party has become Amazon Country...the party of real, imaginary women and girly men.

John McCain had absolutely no idea what he was about to start when he chose that fresh faced Sarah Palin as his running mate back in 2008. The “babe” as Mount Rushbaugh called her at the time, was totally unqualified to be tapped as a candidate for vice president, and most pundits figured her selection was merely McCain's way of giving up without having to actually say, “no mas.”

The election was a landslide that republicans continue to this day, to spin as a close race, that Palin/McCain almost won, making Palin a household name instead of relegating her to the fate of trivia question answer as is the fate of most VP's successful or otherwise.

Looking back, the only thing really new about the Palin choice was the fact that she was a real live girl instead of the girly men of recent GOP history, like Dan Quayle or George W. Except for gender, both of these less than he man types have more in common with the intellectually challenged Palin then they did with the rugged Ronald Reagan or even George the first variations on the usual vanilla masters of the universe theme.

Nobody on the GOP side cared if these dimmer than usual bulbs destroyed the world as they studied for their foreign affairs policy credentials, and they were apparently willing to let Sarah study on the job as well, witness her continuing occupation of center stage these days.

Now comes 2010, and the Bimbo Eruption is on full blast. The original and real live Bimbo having decided to make money and to play kingmaker instead of be king, proving that she may not be as dumb as we all like to think, is being cloned. The GOP is looking for a new “Sarah” that looks, acts, talks and feels exactly like the original.

Fresh out of Delaware and in competition for the seat vacated by Joe Biden comes Christine O'Donnell, the latest teabagger heart throb. O'Donnell couldn't be elected dog catcher, let alone US Senator, if you listened to the pre election hype. Yet, somehow she managed to upset a veteran republican for Biden's old seat.

Christine was endorsed by the prototype and shares similar views, meaning she is an abstinance candidate among other things, going so far as to say that masturbation should be illegal and adultery a crime.

Adultery a crime? No wonder she doesn't sit well with the regular honchos of the GOP. But Lady Sarah is happy, no doubt, since another of her “mini-mes” has emerged victorious. Wonder if Sarah will introduce Chrissy to her witch doctor? Oh wait, Chrissy had one on the podium behind her last night, except she called him her lawyer.

But it must be remembered that this is just a primary. In other words it was a family quarrel. It wasn't the battle or the war. She still has to face the “other America.” You know, those of us who don't belong in this country according to their faction of the GOP. Truth be told, she probably would not have won if the GOP members had turned out to vote, which they didn't.

Because like all of these “teabagger victories” nobody is turning out to vote. Something that the MSM fails to put into perspective. The wins are minority wins from within the minority. If 50% of those eligible took part, then it might have been significant, maybe. But in all cases...from Joe Miller in Alaska, to Sharron Angle in Nevada, to Nikki what's her name in South Carolina, to Rand Paul in Kentucky, to Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman in California...nobody is turning out to vote...But this is normal for primaries in America. Party faithful elect the candidates, while the electorate chooses the winners.

So to recap we have the Drama Queen from Wasilla begetting Nikki Haley, the maybe adultress from the Palmetto State who begat Rand Paul the clueless from Kentucky, who begat Sharron “I see aliens everywhere” Angle from the desert, who begat Joe “please don't make me drive” Miller from Alaska, who begat Christine the giant killer from Delaware.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm....Who's in trouble in November, again?

The Cute Factor

With expectations sweeping the floor, Sarah Palin had no where to go but up. She was forceful, bless her heart. She had the “cute factor” working, batting those great big brown eyes, sporting those huge dimples and flashing that perfectly aligned extra white smile. But after about five minutes of “aw shucks, politics delivered in that grating sing-songy voice, I was ready to pull out what little hair I have on my head.

Palin was obviously well rehearsed in GOP attack lines, but was almost totally non responsive to most of the questions. Cliche after cliche was followed by campaign line after campaign line to the point of repetitive tedium.

Joe Biden, I thought gave the best debate performance of his life. I’ve seen him a few times now, and this time he kept me engaged without resorting to an overwhelming amount of Senate-speak. He showed himself to be the foreign relations expert that he is. He stated his positions as well as those of Obama’s, clearly and concisely.

He was a gentleman. There were many times that he could have climbed all over his lesser experienced opponent, but chose to just chuckle rather than to pounce. He didn’t need to, her sometimes nonsensical answers spoke volumes.

Palin will still probably get a bounce out of this. Not because she and McCain deserve it, but because folks probably think she is so damned cute behind that microphone.

I’m Voting for the Old Guy

Just finished watching the first debate of this latest presidential season. All top tier democrats were on stage and apparently on their best behavior. It was pretty boring except for the old guy, Senator Mike Gravel. I didn’t know he was running for president. Hell, I didn’t even know who he was, but I like the fact that he, at least was willing to throw some bombs and mix it up a bit.

He spoke his mind with no hint of political correctness, and made some folks antsy. But he doesn’t have a snow ball’s chance of getting the nomination. Gravel flat out said the war was wrong and that we should pull out, period. He said if congress was really against the war, it would pull the funding, which is Dennis Kucinich’s major stance.

He excited me, made me want to vote for him. He was raw and plain spoken and is probably crazy. But after the past six years of lies, prevarication and arrogance, I’m more than happy to settle for the old guy senator, over more wet behind the ears polished, professional politicians.

But seriously folks....

Obama....smooth, cool under fire, well studied on the issues...felt like part of the establishment

Hillary (I don’t use Clinton cause there are two of them)....cool, to the point, well studied, I liked her straightforward, albeit boring presentation. And I understand she has to be...too flashy...she’s a tart...too smart and forthright....she’s a B***......too understated and she’s a schoolmarm...she can’t win that publicity war, no matter what she does...

Joe Biden....acquitted himself well, created the best soundbite of the night, but I still don’t like him...don’t trust him...smarmy

Bill Richardson...there is something about him that speaks to me, but I need to hear more, and I really don’t think he’s a strong enough candidate.

John Edwards....I’m not going to lie, reminds me of Dan Quayle....just a hell of a lot smarter...

Kucinich....I love Dennis the menace...he’s a great candidate, just too loopy to make it to the White House....trouble is...he is not loopy at all...and that’s a shame...maybe if he loosened up and took the grassroots, campus route...maybe...he could derail the frontrunners...naaah!

Christopher Dodd....another professional politician...I did like his answer about LGBT civil unions...it was heart felt, honest and human...it didn’t pander...I respect him for that..

Overall, I think the format needs changing. This wasn’t a debate, this was Q&A touching on all hot button issues, with reaction from the candidates...Debates need interaction among the participants.....I had trouble paying attention.

Too much PC in the room....with the exception of the old guy.

Sunday Morning Tidbits

It’s Super Bowl Sunday, so not much else is going on in my brain this day. I’m a Bears fan who plans on attending a Colts party this afternoon, should be interesting.

I predict: Bears 24-17 over Peyton Manning’s Colts...and I like the Colts, actually. Just not today.

***********

Did you know that 87% of respondents to an MSNBC poll say Dubya should be impeached? More than 418,856 people responded to the poll.

As I’ve said before, ITMFA!

***********

Poor Mary Cheney. She’s written an article defending her right to have a baby with wife Heather and she wants us to leave her alone, because her baby is not a political tool for either the right or the left in this country.

Mary can’t help it...she is the neocons’ version of Paris Hilton......Mary and Paris have a lot in common...They apparently think their blondness, their richness, their whiteness, their name allows them to do anything they want without criticism, repudiation, or justification.

*************

Did you know that Congress passed a bill in 2005 mandating that everyone have a national driver’s license by 2008? It’s called REAL ID and is supposed to combat terrorism and keep illegals from faking identification in order to stay in this country. After 2008 all state motor vehicles departments will be linked, so information can be called up anywhere. In 2008, if you don’t have a REAL ID, you won’t be able to board a plane or open a bank account...It’s the law folks....unless Congress acts...

***********

Global Warming....”we has seen the enemy and it is us”....according to a report issued this past week by some expert scientists.

***********

Hillary wants to nationalize Exxon Oil’s record breaking profits from last year....Love me some Hillary, but that’s a bit too socialistic for me....Despite the inequities of capitalism...I’m still
more afraid of big government/ big brother in my life....

Now...can we get back to this war thing? When is Congress going to pull the plug on this? There is precedent for it, why all the foot dragging?

Even Ronald Reagan changed his mind and did a military about face...remember Lebanon?

**************

Daylight savings time comes three weeks early this year....on March 11th...It will end one week later on November 1st......Congress made it so, a couple of years ago....supposed to save us money on gas, light bulbs, since we will be outside in the daylight, and give the kids more time to collect candy on Halloween.....

Critics (where were they when this thing was just proposed legislation) liken this to a mini Y2K. All kinds of computers and schedules may be interrupted and confused by the new law. Check your computer....you may have to manually set yours to daylight savings time this year, depending on how old your ‘puter is.

Why is anyone paying attention to Joe Biden? His bid for the presidency was dead on arrival when he declared. Does anyone outside his state or us political junkies even know who this dude is...or cares what he says?

Please!
