Boehner's Monster

Well, looks like the monster lovingly called Teabag has broken his chains and escaped, and Speaker of the House, John Boehner can no more control his right wing creation than the fabled Dr. Frankenstein could control his.

Neither monster, Boehner's nor Frankenstein's is really human....has no human tendencies or compulsions or understanding or any emotion with the exception of pain. They may look human...have the requisite number of fingers, toes, heads, legs and arms...but that doesn't make them human.

Some philosopher once said that you lose your humanity...if you ever had it in the first place...when you stop caring about others...Boehner's monster crossed that line a long time ago.

The Frankenstein monster didn't really want to hurt anyone. He killed accidentally when attacked by the fearful villagers, who were scared of what they didn't understand. Frankenstein's monster didn't try to destroy his surroundings. He tried or wanted to live peacefully within his surroundings, in harmony.

Boehner's monster, however, is a different story. It is mean, vindictive, possessive of all it surveys, selfish and unempathetic toward anyone who does not resemble them. Boehner's monster is intent on destroying anyone or anything that prevents it from having its way. Boehner's monster bears a closer resemblence to Ripley's Alien or Arnold's Terminator.

"It doesn't eat...it doesn't sleep....it won't stop...ever...until you are dead!"

Boehner's Speakership is on the line because he can't control his monster, which isn't all that big, yet. But he needs some help from the gazillionaires who financed his experiments in the first place. Cutting off the money is the same as cutting off the head. The Teabag monster will follow the duckets right over the cliff, if they act quickly enough. Boehner may have to sacrifice himself. But it's looking like any action taken will be too late for all of us.

Another Attack Ad in Ohio

Ohioans are currently being subjected to yet another vanilla faced attack ad created by some rich guy with too much money and time on his hands. This one comes from Crossroads, GPS and is aimed at Senator Sherrod Brown and President Barack Obama. It claims Brown has voted for trillions of dollars in tax increases that will drive up the deficit.

Really?  I wasn't aware that our taxes have gone up. In fact, taxes under Obama have gone down if I'm reading the statistics correctly.

Can't attack Sherrod on health care. He voted to help the people keep their kids insured and enable those with pre existing conditions to finally get coverage. All this while forgoing government health care himself.

Brown in fact, is the only member of Congress who does not take congressional health care...never has...says he won't until health care is available for all the people.

And since the government is in such dire straits....why aren't more congressmen and women giving back their health care benefits, retirement and salaries.

They're gonna get paid regardless of whether the Country tanks on August 2nd or not. Congressional salaries are considered to be emergency funds that must be funded, empty treasury or not....check it out!

Obama Promises Big Change, Gives Bush-Lite Return

Deja Vu All Over Again

So we wake up this morning to news that Obama is going to allow offshore drilling and exploration as a way of fighting the country's addiction to foreign oil. You can read about it here.

Didn't he campaign against that while running for president? Weren't we, as a country, supposed to be looking at greener and or alternative fuels? I know that campaigning for president and being president are two completely different situations, because presidents have all the information while candidates for president only have some of the information available.

So it is understood that campaign promises are always cloaked in the caveat that reality must prevail should the candidate actually win the office as Obama has done.

Still, decisions such as these feel like Bush-lite, and I can just hear the neoCons now....Drill Baby Drill......just gripes my ass to have to listen to them say “told ya so.”

Brunner for US Senate

Now that Health care has passed there is another pressing election issue. Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner is in a battle to secure the Democratic nomination for US Senate to represent Ohio. Problem is, the good ole boy network is alive and well within the Democratic Party, just like it is in the GOP.

The powers that be within the Ohio Democratic Ranks have all but anointed Lt. Governor Lee Fisher for the spot, summarily dismissing Brunner. The good ole boys, in fact, tried to pull a fast one a couple of weeks ago, favoring Fisher, while attempting to lock him into the Senate nomination.

But it didn't work, and it doesn't mean they won't stop trying. The primary is the second Tuesday in May and everyone who wants change needs to show up and vote. Fisher is status quo. Brunner is the breathe of fresh air needed in DC.

I can't think of a better team to work for Ohio than Sherrod Brown and Jennifer Brunner.

Brunner, in case you don't know, is the official who cleaned up the nasty election mess left over by Ken Blackwell a few years ago. But what thanks does she get for righting the ship in Ohio from the Democratic Party?

They choose to reward one of their old soldiers, probably because it's time, and not because he has really accomplished anything of import for the community.

The turnout for the Democratic primary is actually more important than turning out in November. If change is to continue, then a major turnout needs to occur.

Brunner is the only one who can beat Rob Portman who is again running for the GOP. But she needs our help...

Spread the word and vote in May...and again in November.

Cryptkeeper wins

I just don't get this...Fred Phelps of the Westboro Church, pickets funerals of gay men and women...of soldiers who are killed in our two illegal wars....slimes anyone he so chooses on his vile website...yet he wins in court on technicalities...

If I were Mr. Snyder.....I'd have Phelps playing a real life game of “where's waldo,” if he wants to collect...... give him money to fund his vile practices....when pigs fly....snowballs stay frozen in hell....and Ted Haggard turns out to really be straight....

Oh, and the government taking away his tax free status might help matters, too...

Voting for Senator

Next week, I’m voting for Sherrod Brown for Senator. I didn’t know much about him before he began his campaign against Mike DeWine.

And I will be the first to admit that Brown, is still suspect in my mind. But I can’t support Mike DeWine. He is a part of the status quo that has driven this country to the brink of destruction politically.

One good thing about Brown is that he voted against going to war in Iraq. He was one of the few politicians to dare to stand up to Dubya and neocons on that one.

That one move alone, makes me inclined to trust him. It should serve as notice for some others like John Kerry or Hilary Clinton who voted with Bush. I have not forgotten that. The only reason I voted for Kerry in the first place in the last election was that he was the alternative to Bush, not the answer.

Clinton is expected to pull all women and all liberals if she throws her hat into the ring. That’s not going to happen. She has yet to pull back from the vote or to apologize. I’m glad she stands by her vote and doesn’t apologize for making it. But I question her judgement in backing the move to go to war. It looks like a gutless move rather than a well thought out one.

Brown for senator
Strickland for governor
Cranley for representative-another alternative, not good choice
Pepper for commissioner-not a good choice, but Heimlich is worse

Wish I could vote for Wulsin over Schmidt, but I’m in the wrong district. Schmidt is an embarrassment, just like the other candidate for governor, Ken Blackwell. They should return to private life where they can only do damage to themselves.

Attorney General....man, do I want Montgomery, who is a friend of the crook named Noe or do I want Mark Dann, a very questionable attorney. I don’t like either one...maybe I’ll flip a coin.

Hmmmmmmmmmm

Every time I write or think about politics, I don’t feel happy, optimistic or trusting. What I feel is dirty, as in I need to go take a shower.

The choices are not good....just alternatives.....we need to revamp the system, if that is possible.

But I don’t think it is.
