Serena 's PMS Moment

Make no mistake about it Kim Clijsters deserves to play for the US Open title today. She won it fair and square. I said earlier this week that she would be a headache for Serena, because Clijsters is a very good player from the old school. She doesn't wilt at the sight of her opponent across the net. She plays her game, which has always been one of the best return games in the business.

Most counter punchers, which Clijsters is....don't have anything to their game except the counter punch..in other words the passing shot or the very sharp angle return...Clijsters has that and strength and a serve...both first and second...and she is smart...very smart......and cool under pressure...

When you play Kim Clijsters, you bring your A game or you go home. It's that simple. Serena did not bring her A game last night. Her serve sucked. She couldn't get the first one in and her second simply disappeared. Add to those woes a backhand that became uncontrollable and you have a problem. It's happened before to Serena. But usually she is composed enough to fight through the problems and get back enough of her game to win. Not last night.

Every great player always has that match during a two week tournament where things don't go right. Hopefully they have it early in the tournament...get it out of their system...so that late in the tournament...when they meet the better players...they are battle tested and ready....Serena was not ready...she had not been tested at all in these past couple of weeks..

Further....she seems to be believing the hype...and when you're reading and believing your press clippings more than your fans...you are setting yourself for a big fall...

She totally self destructed starting with when she broke her racket in the first set, which was also a point penalty deduction. The foot fault at championship point was her second penalty of the night.

And yes, she did cuss out the linesman...going in not once...but twice....you could hear every word on the live feed....it was only bleeped in the replay....

I questioned the foot fault...I don't even see it on the replay....However...there was no excuse for Serena's behavior...

It was a total PMS moment.... completely unexplainable...

She lost it....lost it at the wrong time...Unfortunate...but stuff happens...
