That was on a farm that would have been unsustainable had it not been for the Empire's political subsidies. It is now a number of smallholdings that cannot sustain the people living on them. And yet ... the Zambian government recently refused massive food aid on the grounds that the gift comprised genetically modified cereals. Part of me admires the principled stand, part of me abhors the cynical refusal to recognise and deal with starvation.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
